Matt McCarty is in his first season as the Red Raiders' head coach, moving into that position in December of 2015. McCarty was the team's defensive coordinator for 11 years and also served as assistant head coach from 2012 to 2015.

"I want to instill in our players to always do their best," commented McCarty. "I want them to do what is right and to make a difference both on and off the field."

"I really enjoy coaching at Northwestern with our staff because we do our best to meet our young men where they are spiritually, academically and athletically and then help them grow and become their best."

  •   Finalist for the Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014
  •   Guided NAIA's top-ranked overall and scoring defense in 2014
  •   Ranked 4th in NAIA with 39 sacks in 2014
  •   Ranked 5th in NAIA with 38 sacks in 2013
  •   Ranked 7th in NAIA in total defense in 2012, 9th in scoring defense
  •   Set GPAC record and ranked 2nd in sacks (44) in 2012
  •   Ranked 2nd in sacks in 2007 and 2008; 3rd in 2010
  •   Ranked 2nd in scoring (11.2ppg) and 3rd in total defense in 2008
  •   Guided the Red Raiders to a top 15 scoring defense in all but one season
  •  17 players have earned All-American honors
  •  4 players named GPAC Defensive Player of the Year
